their way through areas of indiana, kentucky, tennessee, through mississippi. we'll include alabama in this and areas of eastern tennessee and kentucky. the most dangerous storms now just rolled through the nashville area. these are tornado warnings. this little cluster has had the strongest winds with it it and the most signs of rotation of tornadic signatures. so anywhere to the east of nashville, give it a half hour and wait until the storms are gone and you'll be safe. also strong storms near richmond and louisville. now a wider view, these storms continue all the way down through mississippi. they are going to roll all the way to the east coast. in the areas of yellow, this line of storms will roll through your town. 15 to 30 minutes. they will have the chance of knocking down trees. that includes everybody up to pittsburgh, washington, d.c., just south of philadelphia and then all the way down through raleigh, charlotte, richmond and atlanta. some time around 10:00 a.m. and through montgomery. fast-moving storms that will bring winds with it. it's going to be 70 in d.c. then t

map tonight. normally temperate southern cities, places like jackson, mississippi, are facing more snow than chicago. and abc's meteorologist ginger zee is tracking that. >> reporter: it's the first winter storm of the season for many in the south. and it's been a disaster on the roads. in mississippi, up to half a foot of snow fell in some places, making it nearly impossible to drive. the snow caused dozens of accidents from alabama to west virginia. >> i feel like we're not prepared for it, like most other states. >> reporter: in eastern tennessee, the fresh winter white slowed traffic to a crawl. students at the university of alabama turned the rare scene into a campus-wide snowball fight. >> i'm from tuscaloosa, alabama, so, i'm not used to the snow. i'm used to sun. >> reporter: tonight, winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings stretch from the carolinas through maryland. areas like raleigh, north carolina, could pick up more than three inches of snow. now, this much snow in that part of the south is a big deal. you're about to see some fun video from brandon, missi

to mississippi and down to louisiana producing flooding out here with as much as five inches or more of rain being recorded in some areas. very heavy with some of these storms. taking a closer look, right now, down through mississippi and parts of western tennessee and up to kentucky and ohio, will be moving into the northeast. as far as flood warnings, portions in louisiana. red is flash flood warnings and we do have flooding going on. if you doing traveling in parts of the northeastern louisiana and mississippi, please be careful and do not drive through flooded roadways. we do have flooded roadways across western parts of kentucky and northern parts of ohio. how much more additional rainfall are we talking about? look at the shades in yellow and orange, still four inches expected because what this front is going to be spreading light rain in portions and in through tomorrow morning. keep that in mind for monday morning commute. it will stay stalled in places like mississippi, tennessee, virginia and north carolina. so you'll be dealing with it next several days coming up this workweek. we

-american man in a parking lot in jackson, mississippi. exclusive surveillance video was obtained by cnn that showed one of the teens backing up his pickup truck so he can actually drive over james anderson's battered body. the 47-year-old auto worker died. a federal investigation followed. the truck's driver, deryl deadmon, pleaded guilty to murder and admitted he was a part of white teens who drove around looking for black victims to beat up. the sixth member of the group pleaded guilty to federal hate crimes just this month. now 125 miles north of jackson, another african-american man has been killed by a white teenager in a car. this time no hate crime charges have been filed, and outrage is growing. our investigative reporter drew griffin tonight keeping them honest. >> reporter: it was early on a hot july sunday morning. and right on schedule, just about 6:30, 61-year-old johnny lee butts left his rural mississippi home, heading out for his morning ritual, a four-mile walk. his neighbor, otis brooks, says butts, a sunday school teacher, waved as he passed his front door, wearing a

"our numbers don't yet reflect a downturn," a doctor from duke university hospital, also in north carolina, tells us. this year's flu season hit early, november 25th, a month earlier than a typical one. we're now six weeks into it, and if this year is like years past, we are likely to have six or more weeks to go. it's not too late to get some protection and today, the cdc provided first indication as to how well the vacc

mississippi river valley and ohio river valley. now, first of all what we are dealing with across the northeast, we have a rain and a mix of freezing rain or sleet across the new york city area north of that is mainly a snow event and south of that is where we are getting the rainy weather. the temperature is on the rise. there is our winter mix headed into this evening, mainly snow for northern new england and it will clear out. watch the temperature rise because new york by wednesday, we will push the 60-degree mark. that is going to mean the threat for severe weather for a good part of the nation. so, tomorrow, the highs will be record-setting highs in a lot of the cities, 74 for dallas, 83 in san antonio, 77 in new orleans, 72 in atlanta. this is going to be a very spring-like scenario as we head through the next 24 to 48 hours because we are dealing with a cold front and will clash with very warm unstable air mass and that will give us the threat for hail, damaging wind, and even isolated tornadoes. as we go through the day on wednesday, this time tomorrow afternoon, we could

outages in arkansas and severe weather is expected in tennessee and mississippi. meteorologist david bernard of our miami station wfor is tracking this powerful weather front. >> the big story today is going to be the continued threat for heavy rain and severe weather from the southeast extending into the northeastern corner of the united states. now here's our map for this afternoon, and, again, this front is going to bring a severe weather potential anywhere from the florida panhandle right through the atlanta area. that could mean some travel delays for the big airport there. if we follow the front to north, we're looking at flood watches for a good part of the northeast, strong to severe thunderstorms possible this evening and tonight as that front approaches the coastline. on the opposite side of that, we're looking at cold air spilling into the midwest. the rain we saw yesterday in chicago is going to end as a little bit of light snow with temperatures in the upper 30s. very cold in the plains with highs in the teens and 20s. out west it looks pretty q

. the beneficiaries that are targeted underserved communities in louisiana, mississippi, alabama, and the florida panhandle. there are four components to this. the first is a program serving the developing improved community health programs. it is run by louisiana public health institute joined with the alliance institute which is a community-based organization. there is a mental and behavioral health program which has louisiana state university, southern mississippi university, the university of south alabama and the university of west florida. there is a literacy program which includes a washington- based group. that's got the literacy aimed at the literacy of the community and the community workers and those involved in with community activism and community projects. finally, there is a community health worker training program that is based at the university of south alabama. the overall goal here is one where resilience comes up in the language all the time but the resilience is very much in keeping with what we would do in public health. yesterday there was a meeting held at e.p.a. by the e.
